47North Releases A Calculated Life, Today

The 47North editorial, design and publicity teams have surpassed themselves! In the space of just two months — since acquisitions editor David Pomerico signed me up — they have created a fabulous new cover for A Calculated Life, expedited my manuscript through the editing and proofing process, organized the audiobook and generally ‘put the word out there’. I’ve been involved at every stage in the process!

Little did I know when I took the difficult decision to self-publish my novel that, eight months later, I’d be signing a book deal with a US publisher.

The full wrap-around cover. The back cover is as gorgeous as the front!

There are many writers self-publishing these days so I knew, from the outset, it would be tough to get noticed. But it happened.

A Calculated Life can be found on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and The Book Depository.

It will be available as an unabridged audiobook, narrated by Susan Duerden, on 10 December.

Guest blogposts!

Other 47North authors have kindly invited me to post on their blogs. Click the links:

Today, I write on Kate Maruyama’s literary blog Annotation Nation about the influence of Saul Bellow’s Seize the Day on my writing.

Bestselling thriller writer Lee Goldberg asked me along, too. I write about ‘sleepwalking into dystopia’ and I suggest links between our novels.

And Roberta Trahan kindly gave a shout-out on her blog Idyll Conversation.

Coming up tomorrow:

Annotation Nation’s co-founder Kate Maruyama also releases her 47North novel Harrowgate today and I’m delighted that Kate will be posting here tomorrow.

Brilliantly done. Thank you. Few stories…few characters touch me.

Not sure who was bumped out of my top five, but Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash and Cryptonomicon are in the first two spots. A Calculated Life has settled sweetly among them.

    Just lovely.

I do so hope to see a sequel.

Hi Kathleen, I’ll settle down to my writing this morning feeling very positive, thanks to your comment! I’m working on some short stories at the moment. I may write a sequel to A Calculated Life but it would need to be more than ‘what came next’, if you see what I mean. So I’m mulling that over.
